According to C. S. Lewis (Mere Christianity), “we never find out the strength of the evil impulse inside us until we try to fight it.” Just as “you find out the strength of a wind by trying to walk against it, not by lying down.”
Therein lies the glory of sustained recovery from any sorrow or challenge. When we stand firm against any bodily craving or betrayed heartache and do not succumb to the dark side’s attempt to own our physical and mental wellness, Glory-power is the reward.
An extra twenty minutes of effort and discomfort will yield the benefit of knowing we stood against the wind that long. Then if we move the strength needle another twenty minutes, we may be astonished at more newfound power.
In the world of mental recovery and wellness, the exercising of those efforts will blossom, help will come, and endurance will be rewarded. Lewis explains that Christ was the only man who never yielded to temptation; therefore, He perfectly understands the strength of any wind. While we work Recovery in any sorrow, we can know that our efforts are aided by the One Who Knows!
