Courageous, Desperate, and Inspiring

A few years ago, I facilitated an in-person women’s support meeting. In preparation for this meeting, I found a video called “Will the Pain and Suffering Ever End?”
I took the video to the group meeting. As the meeting began, a young, petite woman sat down next to me and began to sob. I put my arm around her, told her she was in the right place, and gave her my phone number. No one in the room made a fuss. They just smiled compassionately. They had been there—they knew. Today was probably D-day.
D-day is the day the bomb is dropped, the rug is jerked out from under our whole being, and a trauma response floods our system. It’s the day our husbands disclose their secret addiction to pornography and perhaps other betrayals.
The meeting moved through the reading material and discussion; then the sharing portion began. Truth, honesty, and wisdom poured out of these brave women’s hearts. I played the video, and we talked more. These faithful, resilient, traumatized, recovering women moved forward on their grueling path to a new relationship with their higher power.
They are courageous, desperate, and inspiring! They keep showing up because they won’t shut up or give up on their personal covenants with their God. They look up, gather up, and claw up the rocky road to new confidence through newly learned boundaries, tools, and support systems. They put on big girl pants, big girl faith, big girl intelligence, and big girl Light. They each carry a Big Torch, big hope, and big determination to stay the course. Their womanhood, motherhood, and Priestesshood glow as if sourced in a remembered heavenly home.
