The Study of Recovery Principles

The Study of Recovery principles in our personal Recovery Path will help us build an ADDICTION-informed paradigm. When our responses to SHAME include self-shame in its many forms, watching for its many facets in our cognitive thinking, narrow paradigms, and self-shaming paradigms will give us the power to reject the onslaught of the negative shaming triggers.

  1. Strong and intentional boundaries are vital in this process; we never condone or excuse our past behaviors or the abuses we have endured; we simply do the work of NOT allowing them to disturb our peace nor destroy our joy.

  2. We become very good at resisting the powerful temptation to withdraw from others due to fears.

  3. We can work hard on our thought work while taking responsibility for our behaviors.

  4. We forgive ourselves for indulging in self-pity and reject that type of mindset.

  5. We let the bad behaviors of others go back into the black hole of Satan's realm and move out into the Savior’s light with determination to change our shame-thought-cycle.

  6. Above all, we follow the Savior's example and show compassion for ourselves, learn to be patient with ourselves because the Savior is the source of all compassion.
